Solar Electric | Solar Hotwater | High Performance/Green Building

We offer professionally engineered, turn-key solar power systems for a wide range of applications. Each system uses proven state of the art components and is professionally installed, providing decades of reliable clean energy.
All of our systems include detailed documentation explaining operation, maintenance, and benefits. And should you ever have questions or problems with your system our experienced staff will be readily available to help.

Solar Electric:

Investment in Solar equipment is the equivalent of becoming an energy futures investor. Once you purchase and install a solar electric system, we can predict how much power this system will produce throughout the years. The time that you are willing to use as an amortization period will determine the FIXED Kw/Hr cost. For example, over a 20 year period, you can expect a fixed cost of 24 cents per Kw/hr, over 25 years, 18 cents and 30 years, 15 cents. These are installation costs before subtracting any state rebates, tax credit and depreciation of the equipment for business. Solar equipment is the only product that we know of which has a decreasing operating cost as the system ages. With a warranty of 25 years (allowing no more than 20% degradation for PV panels, which is only reached after 75 or more years), there isn't a more durable product on the market.

Solar Market photovoltaic systems are designed for flexibility and ease of installation. Our professional installers are trained specifically for these systems so we can be sure our products are going to be correctly installed to ensure years of trouble-free operation.

Grid-Connected: Electric lines are connected to your property
Now that "net metering" is permitted throughout most of the country, you can become a green power producer by connecting a solar power system to your existing electrical service. The solar panels provide power to your house, reducing the amount of electricity you buy from the power company (and traditional sources of generation such as coal, nuclear, and natural gas plants). Any excess electricity is fed back into the utility, turning the electric meter backwards for a credit.

Blue Link systems are an easy, affordable way to start net metering. Designed to meet the National Renewable Energy Laboratories goal of 10% solar by 2030, this solar electric appliance plugs into your house to green up your electricity whenever the sun shines! We like it so much we started a new company for it! Learn more here.

Of course it is also possible to have a zero net meter reading. Our Horizon™ systems are specifically designed for net-metered applications where people want to use 50% or more solar power. These systems use proven, state of the art technology and are installed by trained professionals.

Off-Grid: Building is a mile or more from an electrical line
For remote power needs when a utility connection is not available, our off-grid systems provide reliable power for whole buildings or a few critical loads. Photovoltaic panels provide power during the day, charging a battery bank for use at night. We offer a range of systems to fit your energy needs, including options for generator back-up for added energy production.

We have designed systems for applications ranging from small cabins to large island homes. Call or email us to find out more information about how we can help with your remote power needs.

Solar Hot Water:

The best application for solar thermal technology is for domestic hot water heating, because during the long hot days of summer, DHW is the only thing you want to heat! Solar Market has pre-engineered solar hot water systems in three sizes: 16 tubes, 24 tubes, and 32 tubes. These systems can supply up to 65% of the average annual domestic hot water needs for 2 to 5 people.

High Performance/Green Building:

At Solar Market, we build High Performance buildings--buildings with exceptional energy performance and high indoor air quality. The resulting buildings are less expensive to own, more healthy and comfortable to live in, and far better for the planet than those of standard construction. We do a limited number of custom buildings, are available for consulting, and are planning a High Performance residential project in southern Maine. Contact us to find out more about how you can own a High Performance home.

"High Performance" vs. "Green" or "Solar" We pride ourselves on our ability to take cutting edge technology and methods and bring them into the mainstream. In home building this means taking the most reliable and proven products and methods and applying them to attractive, traditionally inspired buildings. For example, our latest project involves building a traditional New England Cape using Durisol wall systems, Fibertech windows, superinsulation, healthy materials, and a small grid-tied solar electric system. Our value statement sheds some perspective on this approach, particularly the part about helping our customers to "identify steps that are appropriate to their goals and resources."

We have a range of building materials and equipment to help people build homes that are beautiful, comfortable, healthy, and energy-efficient:

Durisol® Concrete Wall Forming System
These building blocks are made from recycled waste wood and Portland cement and include insulation. They easily hand stacked to form walls which are reinforced with rebar and filled with concrete to create strong, well-insulated, healthy buildings. The fantastic feature of Durisol® walls is that they improve indoor air quality by allowing moisture and other contaminants to transpire through the wall out of your house. Durisol® walls are resistant to termites, mold, and fungus, are fireproof, and are easy to build. Call or email us to find our more about Durisol®.

Other Building Products
We also offer a range of other products for your green building needs. From recycled roofing tiles to window quilt insulating blinds. Most importantly, we are experts at green building, and we can help you get started in the right direction. If you are ready to build a healthy, energy efficient home, call us to find out how to build beautifully, healthy, efficiently, and within your budget.
